I think it's a shame that when a player finds a Club that he gets on well with everyone, enjoys himself, does well and it just seems to click they don't stick with it. I know his mum hasn't been well so does he not want to stay in London? Time will tell.

Yeh his Instagram post suggests he won’t be here next season.

Good luck to him.

Re: Article on Lingard staying with us or not

Agree with this. He’s a counterattacking player in a team, Man Utd, that doesn’t play that way. When teams sit back against Man Utd, he doesn’t get the space he needs to thrive. Ironically he needs to be at a smaller, counterattacking club to thrive.

And as you say, when we were challenging for the top four at the end of the season, teams like Newcastle, who were desperate for a point, began sitting back against us. He hasn’t been as effective against that.

But that’s not the issue for me. His application has dropped off in the last few games. Someone, I forget who, played a great ball into space against WBA and Lingard refused to chase it. The commentators pointed it out and apparently Moyes went ballistic on the sideline. We need a better attitude than that if he wants to stay. Anyone else in the team would have chased the ball down, and a few weeks ago Lingard would have too.

Re: Article on Lingard staying with us or not
I think his initial form with us not only surprised us and potentially Manchester United but also himself. He came looking to salvage a career and no doubt now has an agent telling him they can cash in on his success. Personally I think he’s gone off the boil because he’s come to the conclusion that we’re not going to come up with the money he or Manchester United will now want.
Having said that Sunday is his last appearance in the shop window before the transfer window opens so we might see him back to his best.

Re: Article on Lingard staying with us or not
Assuming they wanted to sell and he wanted to come, (two big assumptions) it all depends on what the numbers would be as to whether it was a good deal.

For 15-20 mill and 70K a week then I'd say that's decent and on a par with other players at the club.

For 30-40 mill (really can't see that, as it's the final year of his contract) and 100K a week then forget it. It's too much.

Ultimately though I think the numbers won't add up to a sensible deal for us, unless they try and use him as a bargaining chip for Rice, in which case we should just tell them to fuck right off. If I have to choose between Lingard and Rice, it's Rice all day long.

Re: Article on Lingard staying with us or not
I have to say that I don't think it's a coincidence that Lingard's best form depends on the form of who is playing up front and their form. His best goals have come from an Antonio or other running into space thus creating space for Lingard to run into or pick a pass. Last few games teams have adjusted a tad and Antonio hasn't been on top of his game himself so Lingard clearly needs a partnership of some sort to feed off. Set the bar so high though that anything below that will be criticised but I think on the whole he has been brilliant and whatever he does I wish him well, unless he ended up at Spurs of course!

We need a top class striker... I like lingard and his impact was what was needed but if it means spending a a big whack of the budget on him I’m out.

Re: Article on Lingard staying with us or not
I agree with a lot of what's being observed about Lingard, but is this the case of him needing those around him to be top notch more consistently. A few of our other players have dropped off a bit and maybe this means he is easier to track/target, for instance I don't think Antonio has been consistent and when they have him to worry about Lingard feeds off the space that creates.

In simple terms I don't think Lingard will carry/drive a team, but more thrive in a frontline that is on top of its game around him, and make use of the areas that open up because of this.

Where he is total class is his striking of a ball and picking the right shot to take and executing it in a split second to perfection.

Not fussed about if he stays or not but will wish him well:

He’s quickly become the player I thought he was and is showing why he was frozen out at the mancs.

Given us some good memories though.

Re: Article on Lingard staying with us or not
lingard should have been the first off yesterday and his third game on the trot for me where he didn't do enough. that said, he couldn't maintain what he did. was due a drop off. all about the boys head really and what he wants to do. £20mil i'd say yes and pray he remains focussed.

i just hope whether he stays or moves on to another club that when he returns to the London Stadium West Ham fans appreciate him for what he has done in his short stay, as we would not be where we are today without him .

Re: Article on Lingard staying with us or not
Last night I thought he was poor and lucky not to be subbed. Two games prior he was OK. Previous games superb.

Players go through loss of form and I put this down to that.

Unless of course as others have said it is a cunning plan.

Re: Article on Lingard staying with us or not
Maybe he's so desperate to sign for us his current form is a cunning plan so we can afford him... :-)

Re: Article on Lingard staying with us or not
I'd take him for £20m, but I don't see him as being worth £30-£40m. If he continued his early form he'd be a £50m+ player, but he's too inconsistent, one year left on his contract, with his age and inconsistency, £20m would be a great deal for everyone.

Re: Article on Lingard staying with us or not
You can’t defend his performances over recent weeks. He has been poor. Even himself will know that.

Thought Benrahma was harshly subbed off. Should have been fornals or Lingard.

If we can get him for a decent price then great. If Man U start demanding silly money for him with just 1 year left on his deal then forget it.
